Five Alive fished Monksville Sunday. It was not one of our better tournament turnouts as we had just 13 members and 1 guest show up to fish on a very rainy day. Still we had a good time. 33 fish were caught with 3 anglers catching their 5 fish limits. Third place went to Randy Barron with 5 bass going 8.97 pounds. Nice job Randy. Second Place went to Ryan Gaynor, our uncontested Rookie of the year. Ryan weighed in 5 fish for 9.58 pounds. Well done. First Place went to Nick Jack with 12.53 pounds. Nick had 5 nice fish with the lunker of the day, a 4.54 chunk. Congrats Nick on taking down your first, First place finish with Five Alive. A few other notes for the day:
I saw Randy Jr, Aka "Happy Meal", sulking at the ramp pre-weigh-in. I assumed it was because he was back boated by his old man all day but actually it was because he lost a sow at boatside. Atsa shame. That does suck. Misery loves company so I joined him in sulking as I watched the weigh in being I only caught 9 shorts and 4 slimy pickeral. I am forgetting what a keeper bass feels like after these last 2 tourneys. I still had fun despite having to keep my bilge going all day due to
the nice hole in my hull. Also worth mentioning is our race for angler
of the year. It's a nail biter boys. Chris Press called before the
tournament with the sad news that he was unable to fish. This clinched
first place for Tim Dafick. Bummer...but wait...Chris showed up 2 hours
late after the issues at home settled and would be able to compete!! As
the weigh in got under way, word reached the crowd that Chris had 1
fish that might not keep. It could be a close ...or possibly not since
it was measured on Bruce Sax's ruler. Legend has it that Bruce's ruler
is a jinx and will actually shrink a keeper bass several inches after
it touches it!! To Chris's delight the fish was good and it enabled
Chris to recapture first place by 8 points. We are off to the Delaware
next week to settle this one. It will not be easy for either angler.
Word on the water is that Tim is a lock since he "owns" the Delaware
and has a honey hole that he knows will produce. Still, he is going up
against Chris Press who is a former Angler of the year and very
dangerous with a spider jig. The man has some mean skills. Never count
Mr. Press out. I wish both of them luck and may the best angler win.
