Well, Five Alive braved torrential rains and wind to have a heck of a Mega bucks on Pompton Day #1 and Manasquan reservoir Day #2. Day 1 was tough but most anglers caught 1 or 2 fish with Tim Dafick and John Carey having the only 5 fish limits. Tim gripped the lead by a small margin with a 9.31 bag over Chris Press with 9.1 pounds, 3 fish bag. Chris had a nice one weighing in at 4.99 pounds, just short of being this years first qualifier for lunker of the year. John Carey secured the 3rd place lead with 8.29 pounds with Ryan Gaynor and Steve Richter trailing less than a pound behind him and Tommy Fariello and Rich Mcrone within 2 pounds of 3rd.
It was totally possible of anyone of these guys to catch Tim and Timmy
jokingly said he hoped the nasty weather forecast held for tomorrow. We
hit Manasquan Day 2 and the rains hammered us but despite the weather,
the bass were very accomodating as 9 guys caught their limit. Halfway
through the day the word was out Nick Jack had an impressive bag with 2
pigs in his live well. Little did we know that Krafty Joe Kraft was
doing equally as well. The weigh-in was really exciting. Joe had a big
fish that would rival Nick's big fish and now Tim also announced he had
a beauty in his live well also!! Joe Kraft's fish went 5.46 pounds,
beating Nicks 5.1 pounder and taking the lead seat as our lunker of
the year. Joe's bag was an impressive 16.77 pounds!! This is the second
largest bag in club history and the largest bag in regular season. The
biggest bag is 17.55 pounds caught in 2004 in a paper
tournament(estimated weight). Tim poured his bag into the tub and
revealed an impressive bass that had everyone holding their breath. The
beast weighed 6.57 pounds!! As Randy Barron would say ..that is one
nice cupcake, sweetie...whatever.....anyway...big friggen fish!!! This
is the second biggest bass in club history and the biggest in regular
season. Still holding as all time lunker is Rich McCrone III with a
7.38 monster caught in 2004 in a paper tournament. What an awesome
tournament!! Tim held fast to his first place lead and took top honors
with 23.67 pounds total. He is way on his way to breaking a few other
club records and has a nice lead in the angler of the year race. Nice
job Tim!! Nick Jack had a bag weighing 14.57, the second largest bag
of the day, which catapulted him into the second place seat. Way to go
and nice comeback Nick.. Joe Kraft's biggest bag made up for a slow day
1 and he secured the 3rd place spot. Honorable mention goes to yours
truly for taking 4th place and Chris Press for taking 5th. Both had
limits but just could not find the size fish necessary to make their
day 1 lead hold. This was a tournament to remember and despite the
uncomfortable weather...Five Alive kicked ass!! |
