Merrill Creek Bass problem - 2006/09/26 15:17 Did anyone that caught Largemouth at Merrill Creek notice any red spots or problems with there Bass? I see in Pats photo on njbassangler.com that his has a red spot. I talked to the guy at the dock and he said some specialist are coming this week to investigate a problem that they found on some Largemouth's. Well I just figure I would pass this along.

Re:Merrill Creek Bass problem - 2006/09/27 00:18 2 of my Smallies had the red spots too from the tournament. The week before I hooked a few fish and none had spots on them LM and SM.

I've seen these spots on Manasquan bass also.

Re:Merrill Creek Bass problem - 2006/09/27 02:03 My guess is that the commerant population has risen in the lake and these birds are responsible for attacking fish populations in the lake. Most bass of this size can not be swallowed by the birds so they take the fish piece by piece. I noticed that a flock of these birds were congrugated in the middle of the lake maybe due to boat traffic and attack the fish later in the day. The will try to eat any fish no matter the size. Usually you don't see this on bass unless it's the spawn season when the fish are shallow and blue herons have their way with them taking chunks out of the side of the fish. They must be hungry and very competative with the other birds in the flock. I say we shoot all the commerants and see what happens after we remove them from the lake...!

Re:Merrill Creek Bass problem - 2006/09/27 14:06 Joe, you’re a real nice guy. I will deal with you face to face, I figured out who you are. By the way my 5 year old has better grammar than you.

Rick, I'm really impressed on your theory, I would have never thought of birds doing that crap. I had it pegged to some kind of bacteria or something. Also in conversation with the dock attended, birds never came up, I’m surprised. I'll have to check up on this topic in a few weeks with the folks up north.

Re:Merrill Creek Bass problem - 2006/09/27 22:36 I believe it may be the birds as well. We saw a flock out in the middle of the lake too. Maybe next trip there i'll bring my BB gun.

BK- You can have Radamski delete JOE's post....let John know.
