Five Alive BassmastersThe top 16 anglers of Five Alive fished Manasquan reservoir on the weekend of October the 17th and 18th. Under less than optimum condition's, Five Alive's elite braved super high winds and heavy down pours in search of the green monsters that live in the club's favorite waterway. Fishing was tough but we are talking about some of the best bassmasters in Jersey so it was on! Weigh in was tense with everyone wondering if they would make the cut to Day 2 as only 8 of the 16 would make it. Sqweaking in at #8 was Rich McCrone Sr with 2.96. 7th went to Chris Press with 3.7 pounds. 6th place went to Andy Konka with 3.78 and Krafty Joe Kraft took 5th with 3.92. John Daut took 4th with 3.95 and 3rd went vto Rich McCrone Jr. with 4.47. Second place was myself, John Carey with 4.97 pounds.

Five Alive BassmastersFive Alive fished Monksville Sunday. It was not one of our better tournament turnouts as we had just 13 members and 1 guest show up to fish on a very rainy day. Still we had a good time. 33 fish were caught with 3 anglers catching their 5 fish limits. Third place went to Randy Barron with 5 bass going 8.97 pounds. Nice job Randy. Second Place went to Ryan Gaynor, our uncontested Rookie of the year. Ryan weighed in 5 fish for 9.58 pounds. Well done. First Place went to Nick Jack with 12.53 pounds.  Nick had 5 nice fish with the lunker of the day, a 4.54 chunk. Congrats Nick on taking down your first, First place finish with Five Alive.  A few other notes for the day:

I saw Randy Jr, Aka "Happy Meal",  sulking at the ramp pre-weigh-in. I assumed it was because he was back boated by his old man all day but actually it was because he lost a sow at boatside. Atsa shame. That does suck. Misery loves company so I joined him in sulking as I watched the weigh in being I only caught 9 shorts and 4 slimy pickeral. I am forgetting what a keeper bass feels like after these last 2 tourneys.

Lake Hopatcong 09-13-2009

Five Alive BassmastersFive Alive braved the rough waters of Lake Hopatcong this past Sunday. We had high winds and some heavy boat traffic. Temperatures were comfortable in the low 80's. We had 18 anglers and 11 guys weighed in fish. Third place went to Bruce Sax with a 3 fish bag weighing 7.05 anchored by a 3.97 sweetie he caught in his first few casts with a buzzbait. Way to go Bruce! 2nd place went to Steve Richter with 3 fish weighing 7.35. Well done. Worth mentioning is the 6.5 lb walleye Steve caught the day before in practice on a black and blue jig. Not the right kind we are after but an awesome catch anyway! Very cool. First place went to...uh...is this right??? Ryan Gaynor???  Out of nowhere our uncontested Rookie of the year pulls off the win. Ryan must have read a book or something or maybe he finally traded in his push button Snoopy pole for  real outfit. Ryan's bag went 13.30 pounds and was anchored with a 5.07 pound muffin that beat out Bruce's catch for lunker of the day!! All kidding aside, well done Ryan. You took it down on a day where some of our finest came up empty handed. Also I want to say thanks for all the helpful advice you gave us all at the ramp to help us improve our fishing skills. For those of you who missed out on the juicy tidbits of brilliance here it is...Ryan caught his fish in the water, near weeds, and he was throwing crankbaits, spinner baits, worms, jigs, a chatterbait, a swimbait, and dropshot rig. There you have it. Just follow what Ryan did and you to can come up a big winner!! Gee thanks pal for the advice!! Well cya all at Monksville in 2 weeks and remember, Five Alive has a buddy tournament on Pompton this Saturday the 19th. Tim Dafick has regained the lead in our Angler of the Year race, taking advantage of Chris Press blanking on Hopatcong. Wow. Now that don't happen often!

Five Alive Bassmasters LogoTwenty-One members of Five Alive hit Deal lake today, August 23rd. We had a mix of weather. It was hot and humid, sunny, cloudy, and pouring rain intermitantly throughout the day. Water temperatures were around 82 degrees and the water was muddy in most areas with a greenish tint. The bite was slow and we didn't see the bigger fish we are accustomed to seeing on this Lake. Lunker went to Joe Kraft with a 2.93 pound fish that topped off his bag of 3 fish weighing 7.05 pounds which gave him 3rd place. Second place went to Rich McCrone with 7.14 pounds. Our first place winner was Chris Ringer. Ringo is back! Chris had 4 fish weighing 7.98 pounds. There were no limits caught today we had 15 of the 21 that fished weigh in fish. It was a tough day but not without it's memorable moments. Bruce got his boat stuck on the pilings under the bridge. I got my lower unit caught on a shopping cart, and then we were all met at the ramp by the Asbury Police because 2 wonderful gentleman decided to break into my truck in search of buried treasure. You gotta love Deal huh? Next we head for Lake Hopatcong after a 3 week break. See you there.

Carnegie Lake 08-09-2009

Five Alive BassmastersFive Alive fished Carnegie Lake this past Sunday. It was hot and humid with rain on and off for much of the day. The water was it's usual chocolate color and reached temperatures  in the mid to upper seventies. It was a descent day on the lake with 7 of 18 anglers catching their limit. As weigh in time was approaching the air was thick with rumors of monsters that had been caught that day. It was heard that Tommy had a 6 pounder. It took a mere whisper in Bruce's ear to have the news clear across the club, end to end on Lake Carnegie. Also heard was that Joe Kraft nailed a 5 to 6 pound monster right off the bat early in the morning within the first hour of the tounament. Andy Konka was also said to have a hog in his live well which slowly grew amongst the whispers from 4 plus to 6 plus pounds!! What excitement. Hearts raced as the boats pulled in to the shore and weigh bags distributed. Our anticipations were deflated quickly as the reality of the day was revealed. Tommy's 6 pounder was actually 4 fish adding up to 6 pounds total. Joe Kraft revealed his fish was just a rumor caused by guys overhearing he and Bruce  joking around saying "I got 5 pounda" with  Asian accents. Makes ya wonder what these guys were smokin huh? But what about Andy's monster? We went to the scales. Third place went to Tim Dafick, a familiar name in the winners  circle this year, with 5 bass going8.98 pounds. Third wasn't enough to help him in his quest to catch Chris Press in the Angler of the year race. Chris furthered his lead by taking second place with 5 fish weighing 9.47 pounds. Nice job Chris. Chris started off the day by blowing chunks boatside after a hearty night of partying. Despite his queeziness, lethal beer farts, and burps Chris still did well. I can not say the same for some of the geese that wondered within range of the toxic fumes dispersing from Chris' rain suit. I saw a flock of 50 geese going his way but only 3 made it back. Maybe we will see a few hundred pounds less of the goose crap that builds up on Carnegie's dock! First place went to Andy "the Senko King" Konka with 5 fish  totaling 11.94 pounds! Andy actually did have a monster! anchoring his bag was the lunker of the day, a 5.07 pound beauty. Andy was happy to take his very first, first place win with Five Alive. Nice job Andy. In addition to the day's first place and lunker winnings, Andy will receive his sponsorship check from Yamamoto bait company this week. It was a good day. See you in 2 weeks at Deal Lake. Tight lines and stay outta my hole!
