Monday, 14 April 2008
Five Alive BassmastersToday we fished Pompton Lake, and had a great turn-out for an early season tournament. We had decent weather with overcast skies, air temps in the low 50s, and winds running 10-15mph, with gusts up to 25mph.
The water was a bit cloudy, and ranged in temp from 54-56 degrees.
32 Members fished today, and over half caught fish. The bassmaster of the day went to Rich McCrone Sr (Father McCrone), with 5 fish weighing in at 10.97 pounds! You the man Rich!!! Chris Ring (Ringo) came in at a close second with 5 fish weighing in at 10.84! Nice job Ringo! Time Dafick landed third with 2 nice fish weighing in at 6.94....not too shabby!
Big fish of the day went to Karen McNally! The hog weighed in at 5.82! What a pig!
All in all the club landed 39 fish for 81.88 pounds....nice way to start the season!

Five ALive BassmastersWe had our first official 2008 Five Alive Tournament today on Mirror Lake, and man was it cold! Not only was the air temp in the low 30's in the morning, but it only got up to 47 by the end of the day! We had clear skies and sun, and the wind was only 5-10 mph out of the north east. The water was very clean and clear, and ranged in temp from 47-50 degrees....warmer than the air temp!
33 Members fished the first run today, but only 14 anglers caught fish. Tom Fariello took the day with 2 fish weighing 5.25, and also had the lunker of the day which was 3.40! Great start to the year Tommy!!!
Mike Burkpile landed 2nd, and Dave Burkett followed up in 3rd with 1 fish each. Way to go Bassmasters!

Next, we move on to Pompton Lake...should be a good one!!!
See ya there!

Check out the rest of todays results....

It all came down to the Top 20 Guys for the 2007 Five Alive Club Classic! We fished the classic on Manasquan, and the weather really wasn't too bad for the second week in November. We had 45-50 degrees by early afternoon, with winds 5-10mph. The water was clean as always, and ranged from 42-45 degrees. Pat Durkin column: Slow down for a fishing thrill

"When I started row trolling, I'd catch maybe one trout by the time everyone else got their five-fish limits. I finally asked an old-timer what I was doing wrong. He said: 'The same thing you always do wrong. You're going too fast."

As I pulled on the oars and asked Mark Stange the best trolling speed for brown trout, a nearby sandhill crane butted in with a loud bugle that silenced me in mid-sentence. Stange smiled, possibly because the ... via WisInfo
